Reptile vs Akuma

Reptile: Mortal Kombat's other recolored Scorpion

Akuma: Street Fighter's other Ryu reskin

A game should surprise you to keep you invested, I mean, if you have beat every boss already, what's the point if you can expect everything that comes next, why bother? So how about a SECRET BOSS, an obvious choice for a fighting game to have, as its rather straight forward, normally you just punch all the guys, but making completely new characters for something only some of the player base will know about is kinda saddening, but what else would you do, just put the main character there. Well how about you just grab your paint brush, give em some unique moves change their stats around, and fantastic. And just so you know you can do this with the regular roster TOO. Laziness is awesome if you make it cool enough. Oh yeah, Reptile and Akuma to be fair, have both grown to more than just a reskin secret boss, but let's remember their beginnings and see who would win a DEATHBATTLE...blog.

Before we Begin...

This is specifically original Reptile (from the original Arcade Games all the way to MK Armageddon, but I think his reboot counterpart also is fair game since it's just a different timeline caused by Raiden sending memories of the future to the past) vs Akuma (with the canonical mainline games and Udon Comics factored in).
Reptile also has the Onaga thing he does where his body becomes the Dragon King himself, while Akuma has access to becoming Oni.

Background

Reptile

Reptile acted as Shang Tsung's protector in the first tournament, staying hidden and rarely fighting. He'd later act as a servant to Shao Kahn in promise to save Reptile's race, yet he failed in his mission, and ended up being trapped in the Netherealm for his crimes. After that he started switching different people to serve under, over and over, in hopes to revive his race, eventually landing on Nitara acting as a pawn in their plan, Reptile eventually figured this out and went to fight her yet only found an egg, and when the egg hatched, Reptile was now the host for the dragon king: Onaga the original ruler of Outworld.

Akuma

Akuma and his brother trained under Goutetsu, learning a nameless life threatening martial art, and the "Instant Hell Murder" technique, he must be nice. Eventually Akuma's brother had a falling out about the brutality of this fighting style, Akuma however, kept on going. Akuma soon had to embrace the way of the Satsui no Hado to learn said Instant Hell Murder technique, so he had to remove all compassion he had for his fellow man. Eventually he left to go train on his own, although due to his devotion to this fighting style, and new, less guided training, Akuma gained a lust to fight people to the death, eventually even coming back and fighting his master to the death to prove his superiority. Upon winning, he took the beads off his lifeless body as a reward, showing he's the master now, as his brother would see this, and was shocked. Years later they fought, yet Akuma's brother did not kill Akuma. Leaving Akuma to wander the world fighting anyone worthy. But even with his whole lust for murder fights, he hasn't fully become one with the Satsui no Hado but he can be, leading him to become the demon: Oni.

Experiences/Skill

Reptile

Being part of a fighting game, Reptile obviously can fight, able to battle against skilled fighters such as Johnny Cage, and is a master of stealth. Although he did consistently serve people, even if they never keep their promises. However, his prowess is massively enhanced when he turns into Onaga,  as he's definitely even better manipulating people, maintaining it for years, and was a threat to Shao Kahn.

Akuma

The unnamed murder technique Akuma loves incorporates Karate, Judo, and Kempo. Due to his life style, Akuma fights constantly in general, going around the world and fighting the best of the best. His skill has been described as terrifyingly perfect, showing no inexperience, and has killed hundreds of men, matching and even performing the techniques of the world's best fighters, even in hell itself.

Abilities

Reptile

Acid

Due to his strange physiology, Reptile can spit acid, strong enough to easily dissolve his foes. Strangely, he can also create a shield of acid, giving him a corrosive defense.

Basilisk

Basilisk allows for Reptile to slow down his perception of time, allowing for increased combative ability.

Invisibility

Befitting of his stealth Reptile is able to camouflage his body to turn completely invisible, similarly to a chameleon.

Onaga

This is the big guns, obviously he's way stronger than normal Reptile, but also has a good few abilities. He can fly, persist after death, exist as a spirit able to possess people, astral project, and resurrect upon dying, with him being able to travel dimensions in his spiritual state.

Akuma

Raging Demon
Akuma's most iconic technique, weighing the sins of the victim against them, this flurry of blows results in an automatic, and often painful death for the victim.

Chi Manipulation

Chi is a common thing in Street Fighter, it can be shot in balls of energy, and even sensed to find opponents.

Teleportation and BFR

Akuma has shown the ability to teleport and cross through dimensions, and other users like Ryu can send people straight into hell.

Oni

A powerful form that makes Akuma even stronger. It can telekinetically float his necklace beads, and stun opponents.

Feats

Reptile

Strength

Speed

Durability
  • Shouldn't be far behind Taven in durability, who survived being struck by a meteor (3.6 Tons of TNT)
  • Onaga withstood Raiden's massive self destruction explosion (4.57 Kilotons)
  • Shao Kahn, who Onaga upscales, similarly tanked a blast from an amplified Raiden
    • Raiden should be in a similar ballpark to Fire God Liu Kang, as his power was one of its components, meaning it's possible to at least downscale him to feats like causing the aforementioned big bang, or creating a black hole (11 Yottatons)

Akuma

Strength

Speed

Durabillity
  • Took a head on collision with a large meteor, and survived its destruction (1.9-28.7 Petatons)
  • Comparable in stats to Gill, who was unscathed by a nuclear bomb (300-475 Kilotons)
  • Him and Ryu survived the destruction that he caused on an island (119 Megatons)
  • Should be E. Honda's superior, who withstood being slammed into a meteor fast enough to break it (961 Megatons)

Verdicts

Stats

On his own Reptile is in a similar range as other Kombatants, who can break pillars shrug off a small meteor strike, getting up to 3.6 Tons of TNT, placing Reptile in base solidly at a Large Building level. As admittedly still impressive that is, Akuma brutally blows that out of the water. Akuma has made blasts visible from space, and shattered a large meteor, with results of 5.42 Gigatons and up to 28.7 Petatons respectively, and he can only get stronger through scaling. Through scaling to Ryu, he should be close in strength to Gill, who has a 1.3 Petaton meteor feat of his own regard, but the Udon Comics provide another avenue to Akuma's power level. In said comics, Gill also one shot Jedah Dohma, one of the high tiers Darkstalkers. For reference, another Darkstalkers character: Pyron, has an orbital path larger than a galaxy, and was able to grow to the size of the universe given enough time. Jedah himself has also destroyed Makai, which is the Human World's demonic mirror reality, meaning Akuma can reach Galaxy, to possibly even Universal levels of power.

While stats may sound like a devastating stomp in Akuma's favor, Reptile has one final trump card: the old King of Outworld, Onaga. As strong as Oni is, even giving Akuma a new feat getting up to 145 Gigatons, and just generally improving Akuma's already incredible stats, the difference between Reptile and Onaga is greater than a kiddie pool and the Pacific Ocean. Onaga is undoubtedly stronger than Raiden, who was one of the components behind a force that can recreate the universe. Shao Kahn was so afraid of Onaga's power, he resorted to poisoning him rather than fighting him head on. For reference, Kahn has physically merged realms and defeated the reality shattering Blaze. Reptile's transformation into Onaga doesn't just level out the playing field, it places him far beyond what Akuma can achieve, even through Oni.

In terms of speed, base Reptile can hit up to Mach 9.8 through Kabal, and has arguments of getting close to light in speed via Kotal. Akuma, on the other hand, is breaching Mach 5,633 by blitzing M. Bison, and can get from 81 Trillion, to even 1 Quintillion times the speed of light through Darkstalkers. Similarly to the previous stats, Onaga is Reptile's savior. By scaling to the speed of the big bang, and physically moving an infinite realm, he can be placed up to 530 Trillion times faster than light, or even infinitely fast, blowing Akuma's speed out of the water, with Oni being incapable of closing a potentially infinite gap in both stats and speed.

Abilities

While neither have a large amount of abilities, Reptile can take a general edge here. Although his invisibillity is cancelled out by Akuma's senses, his acidic spot could be capable of punching through some durability through it's corrosive nature, though given the initial gap, it is unlikely to be fatal. While sending him to hell or brutalizing Reptile through the Satsui No Hado, Onaga has potential counters aside from his substantial speed edge. He can project his soul across dimension, and could arguably fuse hell back into Earth's realm, circumventing battlefield removal, and the instant death caused by the Raging Demon may prove troublesome, Onaga has been shown to linger past his death in the past, and being able to get a new vessel upon defeat.

Tertiary Factors

While both are from fighting games, giving the two experience in battle, Akuma is undeniably Reptile's better. He's devoted his entire life to fights, and has torn through Street Fighter's ranks with ease, meaning Akuma would outskill Reptile, and possibly even Onaga, due to his limited appearances.

Conclusion

Reptile

Advantages:
  • Acid spit can do decent damage
  • Onaga makes him take the stat trinity exponentially
  • Onaga cannot be put down by Akuma

Disadvantages:
  • Far slower, weaker, and less durable in base
  • Invisibillity is countered
  • Less skilled and experienced

Akuma

Advantages:
  • Sees through invisibillity
  • Superior range
  • More seasoned fighter
  • Much better stats than base Reptile

Disadvantages:
  • Onaga is much greater in stats
  • Oni cannot close the gaps in power and speed
  • Can't pull off stronger moves fast enough
  • Unable to permanently put Onaga down
While Akuma certainly was a vastly superior fighter, and could've won with a different rule set Reptile, or well more accurately, Onaga was muxh tougher, faster, and stronger than anything Akuma could dish out, along with his immortality meaning he won't be down for the count even if Akuma could land something like Raging Demon. It seems Akuma finally met his match, ultimately leaving him open to the kill. Fatality
