Megaman vs Sonic
"Heroes can be found in the most unlikely places. Perhaps we all have it within us to do great things, but may simply lack the circumstances or the reasons to be heoric."-Justin Richards
Megaman: Capcom's Blue Bomber
Sonic: Sega's Blue Blur
Technology is outstanding, and could help the world tremendously, yet at the same time it has potential to end us all. That's why we have these two blue heroes prepared to save those too weak to defend themselves from robots, aliens, and the mad scientists that began all this mayhem in the first place! So will the Blue Blur put Rock in the same scrap yard he's put so many other foes in, or will the Blue Bomber leave this hedgehog last in this race? Well let sparks fly and dust be settled, as we figure out who would win a DEATHBATTLE...blog.
Before we Begin....
This will use the classic version of Megaman and modern version of Sonic from their games, so material like Archie, Fleetway, EXE. or either's cartoon histories will not be used unless there's reason for them to scale, like classic Sonic and modern Sonic's multiple crossovers, or some debatable cases where classic Megaman elements meet X, but beyond those don't worry about any "everything is canon"s, and enjoy the show
Background
Megaman
In the future of 200X, engineering genius Doctor Light was creating a robot, one similar to a human, and after a prototype he made the twins Roll and Rock or how he'd be known in the states: Megaman! Rock was Light's lab assistant, but Light's old rival Doctor Wily would turn other robots Light made to the side of evil, so Rock had to be upgraded to save the day and become Megaman! Mega's main ability being he's an idealess hack, and just takes other robots special gimmicks himself for the ultimate game of mega paper scissors! Over the years, Wily had thrown countless things at Mega, only for him to push through, and so many times has he let this literal war criminal walk off. And while no matter what if, Wily lives (and even when he isn't), Rock will never see a world of everlasting peace; he and the robots descended from him will keep fighting until the end...until the series did this like weird pseudo reboot thing with Star Force and Exe, but that's not what this blog is about.
Sonic the Hedgehog
"Every world has its end. I know that's kind of sad, but... that's why we gotta live life to the fullest in the time we have. At least, that's what I figure."
What's to say about this hedgehog you don't already know? Blasting into the scene in the 90s, as a marketing scheme to beat a fat plumber (and failing), this cool dude with a chilidog appetite has fought a different red mustached man for years, saving green hill from robotization countless times. On his way he's befriended countless pals like a flying fox, the ultimate life form and the president of the United States. He's collected ancient artifacts known as the Chaos Emeralds, allowing him to access the totally not Super Saiyan form of Super Sonic, and with that what hasn't he fought? Gods, robots, robots that might as well be gods, humans, those guys from Lost World; the works. No matter what Eggman is plotting, if Sonic's around Mobius? Earth? Nondescript Planet? What have you, as long as the Blue Blur is there green hills will flourish and chilidogs will be eaten in peace.
Experience/Skill
Megaman
Now,Megaman is based on a kid and those are dumb, but he is also a robot and those are smart! Seriously though, Rock has fought many opponents with so many different abilities and knows how to counter and use those abilities at the same time, regardless of whatever arbitrary function assigned to them, and Wily has definitely put him through a lot, with his own prototype giant mechs, many levels, and Airman. He's even fought aliens...well it was actually Wily, but he did get to kick alien robot butt eventually. And obviously, he's likely not as smart as Wily or Light, but working as Light's assistant probably rubbed off, and even if his foe is a genius such as Wily, he was never able to stop our little guy.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Alright the real question is what hasn't this spiky prick done? He's taken out, and surprisingly outsmarted a genius that's made tech to warp reality, taken out literal gods, became King Arthur, saved solar systems, and played in the Olympics with Mario. He's skilled with a sword, invented the spin dash technique, can use homing attack, and beat a robot that knows his every move. Although despite how much he's done, he's not perfect either. Being fair, he doesn't exactly care for science and math, his buddy Tails can handle that, but when it comes to fighting and going on adventures no one quite does it like the fastest thing alive.
Equipment
Megaman
Spare Bodies
What video game character is complete without some form of a 1-Up? And what better way for a robot to come back then a back up body, by transporting his AI into a new vessel he's practically immotal...keyword "practically", because these are limited to nine lives, so don't get too cocky, Rock.
Tanks
Most well known is the E-Tank, but Rock has collected many over the years. Energy tanks to refill health, weapon tanks to refill, special weapon energy, and super tanks to do both
Double gear system
A device designed to overclock a robot's systems, although overuse can cause strain. The speed gear let's him perceive faster, and with later upgrades even move faster, to basically act as slowing down time. The power gear upgrades his strength physical and laser, including special abilities.
Companions
While animal labor might not be your first idea for a hero's, arsenal Megaman uses it fantastically. With some of his companions including:
Eddie: A walking briefcase that'll hand out random items.
Beat: A bird that can fly into enemies, and save Rock from pits.
Tango: A green robo-cat that can turn into a buzzsaw, yeah why not.
Rush: Not only is he the goodest boy known to man, but he can also search for stuff, bring you useless items, become a jet-submarine-spaceship and more, and also play fetch like any good dog would.
Item Boxes
Definitely the most iconic way for sonic to obtain items, and it has many things to offer, such as:
1-Ups, air up to 50 coins each, water shield that lets him breathe underwater, fire shield that lets him survive fire, thunder shield that lets him survive electricity, blind which'll blind opponents, can summon other Sonic characters to his side, one that sends him to a Special Stage, Confusion: which scrambles a player's controls, Continue Monitor gives the player an extra continue, as such, if Sonic loses all of his lives he can start a Zone over with three extra lives, exploding balloon puts a detonating balloon near someone, free throw gives him a basket ball, grow and shrink gives manipulation of size, invincibility that's basically just Super Sonic gameplay wise, minus flying, jump to jump high, he can set mines, set check points, turn his opponent's playfeild into a mosaic, he can swap with opponents, a pogo spring, can boost speed, make you die next time you take damage, rocket shoes, slow down opponents, soda, item stealing, time stop, and even a skateboard, anything goes with item boxes
Rings
Probably one of the most iconic things about Sonic. Sonic has collected countless rings in his career, and its no mystery why. They're able to give you stamina or rejuvenate your abilities, and even power Super Forms. If you take a hit, having a ring to spare can transfer the damage to it, completely disregarding an attack with just one on hand.
Wisps
Wisps, you love them or you hate them, but Sonic sure can use the creatures, they're powered by Hyper Go-On energy and, and have variants like:
White: Provides a temporary speed boost and automatically collects rings.
Cyan: Lets Sonic bounce off of walls and reflective surfaces.
Yellow: Turns into a drill and can burrow underground.
Orange: Launches Sonic high in the air to reach elevated spaces.
Pink: Grants Sonic longer spikes that let him cling to ceilings or walls.
Green: Turns Sonic into a slow hovercraft for flight.
Blue: Makes Sonic into a large, heavy cube.
Purple: Causes Sonic to become frenzied and chomp through anything.
Red: Makes Sonic into a fireball with enhanced mobility.
Purple: Turns Sonic into a ghost that slips through walls and sucks up items.
Indigo: Turns Sonic into a hovering ball that posseses its own destructive orbit.
Crimson: Temporarily makes Sonic into an eagle with flight capabilities.
Magenta: Turns Sonic into a floating musical note that can cross large distances.
Ivory: Turns Sonic into a bolt of lightning that can electrically shock opponents.
Gray: Turns Sonic into an iron ball that generates shockwaves and scales surfaces.
Black: Turns Sonic into a large bomb that rolls over and detonates on enemies.
Jade: Turns Sonic into a spirit that phases through objects and attacks.
Abilities
Megaman
Robot Physiology
Megaman is a robot, big shocker, but what exactly does this entail? Well, obviously he doesn't exactly have organs or biological material, his hand can be the Buster Cannon/Mega Arm to shoot out lasers, and most special abilities he obtains. It also means he's not exactly restricted to one body, as gone over before, and if atleast his I.C. is intact he can always be rebuilt, although it's not the most sustainable thing. He can also automatically recover health, standing still and reduce damage by half.
Fire Manipulation
There's been a handful fire powered machines to take from over the years, with one of the standout examples being Heat Man, who can shoot that flames that reach up to 12000°C in heat.
Ice Manipulation
Just like fire, there's been several ice manipulating Robot Masters, with Ice Man in particular getting to 200 degrees below 0.
Statistics Ampflication
Upon taking Guts Man's power, Megaman is able to amplify his own strength in order to lift objects he can't normally.
Space Manipulation
Fitting of his name, Gravity Man can wait for it.....control gravity, I'm shocked, I thought he did taxes. He's also been shown to be capable of altering dimensions.
A weird staple of Megaman, with his classic iteration having two upgrades used to create black holes from thin air.
Time Manipulation
From freezing time to slowing it down, its definitely a useful skill, especially against a speedster, like Quick Man or some weird blue hedgehog.
Health Absorbtion
Like a leech or a landlord, Megaman can take the sustenance of others and absorb it for his own.
Etc.
Due to the avsurd amount of weapons Megaman has scrounged up, it's no surprise the list here is incomplete, luckiky there are seperate sources that compile all of them better than I could.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Dimensional Travel
For some odd reason, Sonic can just run to other dimensions, such as his encounter with the thought to be inescapable Null Space. He's also had plenty of portals to achice the same effect.
Healing
Through speeding up his molecules, Sonic can to heal, and with certain abillities, he can rejuvenate from just his soul.
Non Physical Interaction
From ghosts to music notes, Sonic has shown the ability to fight with all kinds of things, even ones he logically shouldn't be able to. Then again this is a talking cartoon hedgehog so anything goes at this point.
Immortality Negation
With a combination of his swords, Sonic could slay King Arthur, who was rendered immortal and invulnerable due to his scabbard.
Hacking
Through amusing little mini games, Sonic can even hack the technology of Doctor Eggman, which is no small feat, considering how impressively resilient the doctor's tech is.
Soul Manipulation
Sonic can do many things with his soul, like the aforementioned healing, to slowing down time, speeding himself up, and some have badass names like Soul Devour.
Time Manipulation
While he previously required certain context to use Time Breaks, he can now perform them on his own, which slow time down to a crawl for everyone except Sonic.
Attack reflection
Unlimited Energy
With an Endless Boost, Sonic can accelerate with no upper limit to his stamina.
Enhanced Senses
Resistances
Megaman
Hacking: Resisted Wily's attempts at reprograming him in Mega Man IV.
Extreme Temperatures: He can withstand the intense heat output by many Robot Masters, such as the previously mentioned Heat Man or Ice Man's respective elements.
Biological, Soul & Mind Manipulation: As a robot, he lacks the soul or biological functions of an organic being, and can't be controlled through typical mind manipulation techniques.
Space-Time Manipulation: Could resist getting hit with the Wily Star's space-time distorting Ion Cannon and Cut Man's space-cutting Rolling Cutter.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Causality & Law Manipulation: Was described as transcending things like causality and laws, which are directly governed by The End.
Time Manipulation: Across the series, Sonic has existed in places that completely lack time, and can function normally in time stops.
Mind Manipulation: Managed to resist Dark Gaia's mind corruption, despite it effecting beings that were embodied thoughts.
Fate and Plot Manipulation: Defied his set in stone destiny in the world of the Arabian Nights, despite it being a story that functioned under fate's ruling.
Forms
Megaman
Power Megaman
Upon combining with Rush, MegaMan can exceed his previous limits and become much stronger than he used to be, breaking structures and dismantling foes he couldn't previously.
Jet Megaman
Similarly to Power Megaman, this state is achieved through a fusion of him and Rush, creating a state in which he can freely fly with those new christened wing rockets.
Super Megaman
Now THIS is the big guns, when equipped with the Super Adaptor, Megaman can reach a new high, combining the strength of the Power state and the mobility of the Jet form, surely the perfect form of Megaman, right? Well...
Perfect Megaman
Hailing from a gag manga, this bizarre form is unleashed by combining all of Megaman's animal companions into one. Due to never actually doing anything, this form's functions remain a mystery.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Super Sonic
Super Sonic hardly needs introduction, after being amped up by the Chaos Emeralds this very legally distinct form has a plethora of new skills. He can twist space and time with Chaos Control, create golden constructs, and can destroy threats that reform from nothing and exist all across time. For more convenient effects, he can refill his rings by standing still, and has become completely invulnerable. This invulnerability enhances his resistances to boot, making him immune to the effects of reality warping or transmutation entirely. Through aura alone, Super Sonic could disperse Eggman's dream realities passively. The Chaos Emeralds on their own are incredibly powerful, existing as the substance behind dreams, and turn thoughts into power. If one's soul is fit for it, the Emeralds can even seal away foes permanently.
Hyper Sonic
Even though it hasn't gotten much love in the modern series, when powered by the Super Emeralds Sonic can tap into this enhanced state. Being Super Sonic's superior, Hyper Sonic further amplifies Sonic's stats, and allows for a complete wipe of any enemies on the screen.
Darkspine
Darkspine may look and sound like an edgy DeviantArt OC, but luckily he's as overpowered as one too. After absorbing the power of the World Rings, this highly potent state was unleashed, being able to remake a universe and it's space-time with a wav of his hand, and control the text that reality is constituted by.

Weaknesses
Megaman
Being the first Megaman, rmRock obviously isn't perfect. If the I.C. is damaged, he can be permanently killed, and he can't use his weapons forever, with some even putting a great strain on him with excessive use.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic is incredibly over confident, and will go into dangerous situations without much foresight, if he doesn't have rings he can't power his super form, and his super forms can potentially run out if he doesn't think ahead.
Verdict
Stats
Starting with strength the Blue Bomber is no pushover, getting to potentially Star levels of power from beating the Wily Star, or lower ends with feats preformed by characters like Duo getting into planetary levels of power, but Sonic is on another level. Even in base, many feats that can get him to Universal+ levels of power, and I won't even mention super sonic cause at some point its just bullying.
Speed is surprisingly closer, Mega has feats getting to 8 billion times the speed of light, while on the lower end Sonic has them in the 7 billionas, although other feats can grant base sonic up too 200 billion times the speed of light, or even faster, with there being arguments of getting to Infinite/Immeasurable speeds, and with certain techniques and abilities to go even faster, Sonic is running laps around Megaman. Mega does have these too, but they won't help with the higher speed gaps, and Super Sonic puts those attempts to an end.
Arsenal/Abilities
Now this is interesting, while your first thought may be that Megaman takes this hands down; I mean his whole thing is getting tons of abilities to counter anyone, but it's not so clear. Many of Rock's abilities are kinda useless with the stat gap, or can get resisted quite easily. A grass shield isn't gonna stop a universe destroying hedgehog running at you. Bombs, strength ampflications, rain, whatever, aren't gonna do much to Sonic. Now equipment like time stop is both resisted and had by both, fire shield blocks fire and melts ice, electricity gets thunder shielded, both can manipulate space, with Sonic taking am edge in abillities overall. The spare bodies are probably Mega's greatest advantage here, they're more solidy canon than Sonic's and can help him wait out super forms, yes? Wellll maybe. It's implied that in a fight Megaman could destroy someone's I.C., and Megaman is on par with his foes. Sonic is comically stronger, and also has tools to steal items, can tag team Mega with a friend, throw Mega into an alternate dimension, make him die next time he takes damage, turn his playfeild into a mosaic, and even play basketball.
And comparing super forms here is almost sad Super Megaman is a solid power boost, but Super Sonic is on a while other level, and with the fact he can recover rings by just standing, and nothing Mega will do can hurt him, timing him out is gonna be tricky, not to mention his abilities and the abilities of a form like Darkspine
Tertiary Factors
Both are certainly impressive fighters, Sonic has had a more impressive rogues gallery, but Mega's is nothing to scoff at, although I believe there's something important to bring up, and it's how both usually fight. Megaman excels with using people's weaknesses to optimally take them down, figuring out what abilities will let him win easiest, he doesn't always need to rock paper scissors with foes that don't have such clear weaknesses, he's great at dodging and sliding until his foe is open, and going at it. Meanwhile, Sonic excels with using his speed to dodge attacks and get hits in, and when super he just rolls through everything with his power. Sonic having plenty of counters to Mega's kit really dampers his rock paper scissors strategy, and will have a good time dodging Mega's shots.
Conclusion
Megaman
- Smarter
- Faster than base Sonic, using Sonic's lower speeds
- Extra lives are more solidy canon
- Potentially resists Sonic's hacking
Disadvantages:
- Gets stat stomped hard, especially with Super Sonic
- Most of his abilities get countered
- Extra lives can be nullified
Sonic the Hedgehog
- Stat stomps hard
- Better fighter
- Has plenty of abilities to stop Megaman in his tracks
- Resists/counters most of Rock's arsenal
- Super Sonic is busted, man
Disadvantages:
- Potentially slower in base if you're generous
- Super sonic could be timed out
While Rock is certainly a strong foe, Sonic has counters to almost everything he could throw out, he has plenty experience fighting robots like Mega, and takes stats by a drastic amount, and Super Sonic is just absurd. Rock is certainly impressive and could have beaten so many different opponents, but the Blue Blur had the equipment, abilities, strength, and of course, speed to take down the Blue Bomber for his own world of everlasting peace, the winner is.....Sonic the Hedgehog
